中国红木家具历史悠久，工艺精湛，发展至明代为鼎盛时期，形成了独特鲜明的民族风格。自明代末期，特别式清代雍正、乾隆以后，我国家具大量采用红木制作，文饰精美，成为高级家具的一种代称并名扬四海。
江苏红木家具以精雕细琢闻名，是清代家具的主要发源地。清代中叶以后，清式家具亦流传盛行，北京故宫中不少宫廷家具藏品都出自江苏艺人之手。材料有紫檀、黄花梨、酸枝木、鸡翅木、瘿木、花梨等。江苏现代红木家具秉承了明清款式的内涵，突出文化品位，求新求美，使传统家具再现光彩。
