中国的玉雕工艺源远流长，为世人所羡仰。玉石原料有：质地坚硬的黄玉、白玉、碧玉、翡翠，色彩鲜艳的珊瑚、松石、玛瑙、芙蓉石，晶莹明洁的水晶、绿晶、茶晶、宝光闪烁的碧玺、蓝红宝石等。
江苏是中国玉器的传统产地，故宫博物馆所藏清代大型玉雕“大禹治水”、“会昌五老”等都是当年江苏匠师的杰作。江苏的玉雕在全国有着重要的地位。其特点是构思巧妙、精工细雕、玲珑剔透。其种类有：山子雕、壶瓶类、插牌等。其中白玉“白玉螳螂”为现代玉雕的代表作品。
